History and provenance Built on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in 1966, this clinker is a genuine period piece from the era when wooden boats were the backbone of local fisheries and recreation. Local lore and records indicate she served as a rental boat during the 1960s from Brentwood Bay Marina / Halls Boathouse, used for daily fishing outings — a time when families and anglers routinely launched from Brentwood Bay to fish the productive waters of the Saanich Inlet and nearby channels.
Fishing in Brentwood Bay — a brief note of local history Brentwood Bay and the greater Saanich Inlet have long been prized by Indigenous peoples, commercial fishers and recreational anglers alike. Through the mid-20th century the area supported small-scale commercial fisheries and vibrant recreational use: herring, salmon and bottom fish runs brought boats into the bay, while marinas and boathouses like Brentwood Bay Marina and Halls provided boat rentals and launch services for locals and visitors. A clinker such as this is a living reminder of that era — a craft built for the sheltered bays, rocky shorelines and sheltered coves that define southern Vancouver Island.
